Carmina Bayombong is an extraordinary entrepreneur who co-founded InvestEd, a pioneering initiative transforming the lives of students across the Philippines. InvestEd is revolutionizing the education sector by making quality education accessible, particularly to those who need it most. Carmina’s mission is driven by passion, innovation, and a commitment to creating a brighter future, all while maintaining a touch of humor along the way.

Carmina’s educational journey is characterized by a strong combination of academic excellence and leadership. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from the University of the Philippines, where she actively engaged in various student organizations, notably serving as President of the UP IE Club from 2013 to 2014 and as Finance Committee Chairperson for UP JMA, while also participating in the Laya Football Club.

In 2016, she pursued further education at the Asian Institute of Management, earning certificates in Entrepreneurship Development, Data Strategy, and Startup Management. Her passion for social entrepreneurship led her to complete the INSEAD Social Entrepreneurship Certificate Program in 2019. Carmina’s educational foundation was laid at Miriam College, where she was actively involved in sports and music, before attending the American International School in Lusaka, Zambia, where she received the President George Bush Award for Academic Excellence.

The Birth of Carmina Bayombong’s InvestEd

The idea for InvestEd was born out of a simple yet profound observation: too many students were dropping out of college due to financial constraints. Carmina realized that there was a massive gap in the market for affordable student loans in the Philippines. But this wasn’t just about money; it was about giving students a fair shot at achieving their dreams.

With a clear vision in mind, Carmina co-founded InvestEd in 2016, a social enterprise dedicated to providing education loans to underprivileged students. But InvestEd isn’t just about handing out money; it’s about empowering students to succeed both academically and financially. Carmina and her team developed a holistic approach that includes financial literacy training and ongoing mentorship. InvestEd’s unique approach includes a credit rating and risk-control algorithm that ensures even the most financially disadvantaged students have a shot at success.

Carmina faced numerous challenges, from securing funding to gaining the trust of both students and investors. But her unwavering determination and belief in her mission kept her going. Today, InvestEd stands as a testament to what can be achieved when passion meets purpose.

How InvestEd Works

Funding Students’ Education

InvestEd’s model is simple yet effective. The organization provides education loans to students who are at risk of dropping out due to financial issues. These loans cover everything from tuition fees to daily living expenses, ensuring that students can focus on their studies without the constant worry of financial burdens.

Providing Financial Literacy

But InvestEd goes beyond just financial support. Carmina understood that financial literacy is crucial for students, who often come from backgrounds where money management is a foreign concept. That’s why InvestEd includes financial literacy training as a core component of their program, teaching students how to manage their finances effectively.

Monitoring and Mentorship

Another unique aspect of InvestEd is its mentorship program. Carmina and her team recognize that financial support alone isn’t enough. Students need guidance and support throughout their educational journey. The mentorship program connects students with professionals who provide advice, encouragement, and a listening ear when needed.

A Story of Resilience and Determination

But Carmina isn’t just about numbers and algorithms. She’s a storyteller at heart, and her story is one of resilience and determination. From being recognized as one of Forbes’ 30 Under 30 in Asia to winning multiple awards, including the Cartier Women’s Initiative Laureate for Southeast Asia, Carmina’s accolades are as impressive as her mission.

InvestEd: More Than Just a Company

InvestEd isn’t just a company; it’s a movement. Carmina and her team are committed to breaking the cycle of poverty by empowering students with the financial tools they need to succeed. And they’re doing it with a smile. Carmina believes that education should be a right, not a privilege, and she’s working tirelessly to make that a reality.

The Future Looks Bright

So, what’s next for Carmina and InvestEd? The sky’s the limit. With plans to expand their reach and impact, Carmina is set to continue her journey of making education accessible to all. And if her track record is anything to go by, she’s going to do it with style, grace, and a good sense of humor.

Carmina is not just an entrepreneur; she’s a force of nature. And with her at the helm, InvestEd is poised to change the world, one student at a time.
